Masnun duas are the supplications that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught his ummah for the ordinary moments of daily life — waking, eating, entering the home, and going to sleep. Teaching them to children connects their everyday routines with the remembrance of Allah.
Before eating: the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Say Bismillah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you" (Sahih al-Bukhari 5376). So a child learns to begin with Bismillah, and when a parent forgets, the child may complete: "Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu" (Sunan Abi Dawud 3767).
After eating: the child thanks Allah with "Alhamdulillahilladhi at'amani hadha wa razaqanihi min ghayri hawlin minni wa la quwwah" (I praise Allah who fed me this and provided it to me without any strength or power from me) — Sunan Abi Dawud 4023.
Before sleeping: the Prophet (peace be upon him) taught "Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya" (In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live) — Sahih al-Bukhari 6324. Upon waking: "Alhamdulillahilladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur" (All praise is for Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the return) — Sahih al-Bukhari 6312.
Entering and leaving the home: "Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala Allahi rabbina tawakkalna" (In the name of Allah we enter, in the name of Allah we leave, and upon our Lord we rely) — Sunan Abi Dawud 5096. And before entering the washroom: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith" (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from male and female unclean spirits) — Sahih al-Bukhari 142; Sahih Muslim 375.
Two short Quranic duas every child should memorise early: "Rabbirhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira" (My Lord, have mercy on them [my parents] as they raised me when I was small) — Surah al-Isra 17:24, and "Rabbi zidni 'ilma" (My Lord, increase me in knowledge) — Surah Ta-Ha 20:114.
Teach in context, not by rote alone. When a child recites the dua at the actual moment — before eating, before sleep — the meaning and the habit are fixed together. A little practice each day turns these duas into a lifelong companion.
