How Parents Can Help Their Children Love the Quran

Every Muslim parent hopes their child will grow up loving the Quran. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5027). Building that love is a gradual process, and Islamic scholars offer clear, practical guidance rooted in the Sunnah.

Begin with listening. Scholars advise that children should hear the Quran from their earliest days — even in infancy. Playing recordings by careful reciters and reciting aloud in the home lets the child grow up recognising the sound of Allah's words as a natural, comforting part of everyday life.

Safeguard the foundation. A sound upbringing begins with halal provision; when a child's food and clothing are lawful, the home is filled with barakah (blessing) that makes the heart more receptive to faith and to the Quran.

Give the child ownership. A Mushaf of their own, a dedicated shelf or corner, and gentle encouragement to pick it up themselves helps the child feel that the Quran belongs to their personal world rather than being imposed from outside.

Praise effort and celebrate milestones. Mark achievements such as completing a surah or a juz with family encouragement and small rewards. Positive reinforcement links Quran learning with joy, not pressure.

Be patient and consistent. As scholars remind us, children absorb the environment around them. When parents themselves recite, listen, and turn to the Quran with love, children naturally follow. Harshness, by contrast, can create resentment — so gentle, steady encouragement is the Prophetic way.
